OKFB YF&R to host competitive events at its annual meeting

Oklahoma Farm Bureau members between the ages of 18 and 35 have the opportunity to participate in a variety of competitive OKFB Young Farmers and Ranchers events during the organization’s annual meeting November 5-7.

Nominations for the YF&R Competitive Events, which include the Award of Excellence, Award of Excellence in Agriculture, Discussion Meet, High School Discussion Meet and Charles Roff Award, are available on the Nomination Center page. from the OKFB website.

All awards will be presented at the convention awards ceremony on Saturday November 6.

Excellence Award

The Excellence Award recognizes the best young farm and ranch family in the OKFB or an individual actively engaged in production agriculture. The award is judged on the involvement in the community and the Farm Bureau as well as on the quality of the farming operation and the leadership activities of the applicants. Applicants complete an application, which is judged by an independent committee. The winner will receive a John Deere Gator XUV560E, a crossover utility vehicle.

Award of Excellence in Agriculture

The Excellence in Agriculture Award recognizes YF&R members who do not derive the majority of their income from their own farm or ranch, but who nonetheless actively contribute to agriculture and thrive by being involved in the Farm Bureau. Nominees complete an application for the award and make a presentation on their agricultural and community engagement at the OKFB’s annual meeting in Norman on Friday, November 5th. The winner will receive a Can-Am Outlander 450 ATV.

Discussion meeting and discussion meeting in high school

The Discussion Meeting is a panel-style forum that provides an opportunity for participants to develop their ability to discuss key agricultural issues in a meeting. Participants try to influence each other by asking and answering questions in order to find a solution to a stated farming problem. All participants must complete the online form on the Application Center page on the OKFB website by October 29.

Limited to 20 participants, the high school discussion meeting will take place on Thursday, November 4, starting from the orientation at 5 pm, and the top four participants will receive a scholarship ranging from $ 1,500 to $ 250.

YF&R and members of the College Agriculture Bureau will participate in a joint discussion meeting to be held at the OKFB’s annual meeting in Norman on Friday, November 5, with orientation starting at 9:30 a.m. The college winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the America’s Young Farmers and Ranchers Conference from the Farm Bureau in Louisville, Kentucky. The YF&R winner will receive an all-expenses-paid trip to the AFBF convention in Atlanta, GA to participate in the AFBF discussion meeting, in addition to a John Deere Z355E ZTrak mower.

Charles Roff Prize

The Charles Roff Award recognizes the best YF&R committee in Oklahoma County. Applications are judged on the county’s activities for the year and must be accompanied by a maximum of three pages (front and back) of photos and newspaper clippings for verification. The award is presented at the OKFB annual meeting on Saturday, November 6.
